Thank you for visiting my website.
Working wet on wet to knock down the white of the paper....
allowing the middle value colors to transition freely...
strive for more soft edges...
letting colors mix on the paper...
laying in the darks to define and punctuate...
staying loose and true to the narrative...
This is what I have been up to.
The small practice watercolors shown
reflect my efforts.
Enjoy!
Later this month I will have completed the 81 parts to the year long Andy Evansen/Tucson Art
Academy Online program I signed up for last year. I continue to find the techniques and topics
fascinating and worthy of continued practice. Landscape painting en plein air has long been a
personal goal. And as Spring approaches I hope to use these newly acquired skills outdoors.
Watch this space!
At the moment I am surrounded by all of the framed paintings recently
collected from various local shows. I have all the chicks, so to speak,
under my feathers. And I am ready to add to the nest!
I am inspired, and busy in my studio developing new watercolors
destined for upcoming shows. I hope you will return next month to
see what my brush has created!
Below: Every painting begins with a value study. Whether working from a photo resource or on location,
I work up a small composition in three values. The white of the paper (signifies the lightest 3 values), the gray wash
(captures the middle four values) and the final black marks (detail the 3 darkest darks found in the subject)
complete the preliminary study that is meant as my "road map" for the final painting.
Life is a dream, REALIZE IT. Life is a challenge, MEET IT.
